Look What I made this week for Saturday Show Offs!
EDIBLE SOMBREROS!
So I mentioned this before on my Facebook Page, however I dont think I have mentioned yet on the blog that I am throwing myself a Mexican Fiesta Themed Bday Party! I am super excited about this!
And am on the look out for lots of fun ideas and decor ideas.. so if you have any please leave them in a comment along with any links you have to offer! Im saving all the ideas I find online on a special pinterest board so that I can go back to them as the time comes!
I came up with the idea while I was out shopping Thursday. I decided to check out the Mexican food section for inspiration, when I came across these cookies:
I was SO excited when I saw these.. MARIAS cookies! I was totally reminiscing because my dad used to buy these cookies for me when I was a kid, just because they has my name on them! :)
I knew I just HAD to have these and use them somehow in my party!
Come on a Mexican Themed Party and cookies with MY NAME on them... FREE customization? Holler! lol
It was then that it HIT me out of nowhere.. SOMBREROS! You know.. the big Mexican hats!?
I thought to myself..
OOOH I can make little sombreros! I just need some of the white reeses cups!
Oye.. do they even sell white reeses cups year around?
hmm.. better find out...
I walked around and sure enough found a big bag of them! SO I grabbed the cookies.. grabbed the bag of reeses and headed home to test my idea out.. because I already had the rest of the supplies on hand!
Here are the supplies I used:
Marias Cookies
White Chocolate Reeses Peanut Butter Cups
Writing Icing
White frosting
(technically you could use the writing icing instead of the frosting.. but I didn't want to waste the writing icing!)
Im home by myself for a few days (well with Zander), since The Hubs decided to take the older kids camping. So I decided to only make 6 sombrero test cookies.. which still turned out to be too much, I was full after 3!
Anyways... so take the cookies out and using the writing icing just make fun patterns around the edges of the cookies! Have fun with it... it doesn't have to be perfect! As much as I tried my best to be neat with the "drawing" its summer and out house is hot.. so the icing was kinda melty ( yes, thats the technical term) and a little difficult to draw with!
But for being so "melty" I think they still turned out cute. However.. for my b-day I'm sure I will have the AC running full blast and store these in the freezer when I make them again.
Next unwrap your peanut butter cups.. and add a SMALL amount of frosting.. (this picture was my first attempt and I used TOO MUCH! Use about 1/4 of the frosting shown.) To the top of the peanut butter cup and then flip upside down in the center of a cookie.
Repeat for all! The frosting acts like a "glue" keeping in in place on the "hat". Like I said before.. you can just use the writing icing.. but I just didn't want to waste mine, since the tubes are so small!
They looked cute and I was super happy with myself for coming up with this idea! But they still seemed like something was missing...
Some icing around the peanut butter cup was just the right touch!
Again.. the icing was very melty and a tad bit difficult to manage.. but still I was LOVING how they turned out!
These two are my favorites!
Very Mexican-ish, right!? :)
Mmm.. and they were VERY delish!
Im pretty exciting about coming up with these! :) They will be perfect little snacks for my party!
Whatcha think? Any tips?
Oh and if you have any fun party ideas for my theme.. let me know!
Leave any links you may think is helpful!
Oh and also.. Im really wanting to use these cookies another way too..so that you can actually see the name Maria imprinted on them.. so if you have any clever or fun ideas or ways to show off these cookies with the food.. let me hear your ideas! Im all ears. :)
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the linky parties tab under my head to see where I party!
Much Love & Hugs,
