Operation Christmas Child

Have you every heard of Operation Christmas Child??

Its where you pack a shoe box for a child and share the love of Jesus Christ.
Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project, brings joy and hope to needy children around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

National Collection Week is November 14-21, 2011.
I have participated in this before, but every time I hear about this project I get teary eyed! I am just filled with happiness for the joy this project brings to needy children all around the world!

My family is participating in this project again this year. We decided to do two boxes, one for a girl and one for a boy. Both ages 5-9. But you can choose to do a boy or a girl from ages 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14!

This is SUCH a wonderful project! Its fun to do as a family and also is a good way to teach your children about giving. My kids loves seeing all the fun stuff we got. I asked them, would this be something you would be excited about getting? They all shouted YEAH! And then I explained how we were getting these nice and fun things together to give to a kid who doesn't have much of anything. I told them we are going to pray over these boxes and for the children who receive them. And reminded them that having a giving heart is important, and that they are blessed with many things and we are going to bless someone else with something special so that they can see the love of God!

We packed our boxes with:
Coloring books/note books
coloring crayons
small toys like
Cars, stickers, play jewelry
teddy bear & a doll
Toothbrushes and tooth paste
brush and comb
hair accessories for the girl
We got them each a shirt and socks
deodorant, bar soap and chapstick
and a few other goodies.
We are also going to send a card with our family picture too. :)

The end date for this is coming soon, and I wish I would have blogged about this sooner to get the word out.
But I was so busy this week, and we only just got our boxes together yesterday!
So I wanted to take time and share about this project with you today,
because you still have 6 days until the projects ends if you would like to get involved!
I would just love to encourage you to get involved with this wonderful project.
It really is a great thing to do together as a family that will bring love and joy to a child in need. :)

Check out the OCC website for more info!
They also have a facebook page if you would like to "like" them there!

And just for fun, I found this video and had to share...
