The Secret To LONGER Lashes With Just Mascara!

I get complimented most often on my eyes, my eye makeup and my eye lashes. Most people are in awe of how "long" and pretty they look. But I have a little secret to how I get my lashes looking so long. I will start by saying, my lashes aren't really naturally very long, but NO they are not falsies! And no, I do NOT use a lash curler. All I use is mascara. The secret is all in how I APPLY my mascara.

Ive seen a lot of people put on mascara where they just swipe the mascara brush straight up a couple times on their lashes and that's all. Well that will technically "get the job done", but it doesn't do anything for shaping or lengthening your lashes! If you want longer looking lashes, without having to apply falsies each day or use an eyelash curler. Then try out my technique, which I have been using for YEARS. And like I said, one of the compliments I hear the most always has to do with my eyes/eyelashes!

Eyeshadows used: Moonstone, Sweet Plum & Silver Satin by Mary Kay

If you are curious the mascara I use is Mayebelline Define-A-Lash,  in Very Black. I love it because the brush is soft, long and flexible. Before that I actually used to use Great Lash (also by Maybelline) I loved the curved brush. But after Define-A-Lash came out I tried it and fell in love. SO I mainly use that. I have tried several other mascaras, from different brands (cheap and expensive) I always go back to define a lash though. However it doesnt really matter what mascara you use with my technique, you just need mascara. So use your favorite! :)

Ok so here are the deets:
Place the mascara brush on the underside of your upper eyelashes as close to your eyelid as possible. Wiggle it back and forth horizontally a few times then slowly, and I mean SLOWLY, blink as you again slowly bring the mascara brush straight up. Do this at least about 3 times, dipping your mascara brush back into your tube for more mascara each time. Do the center of your lashes, then repeat to get closer to the inner and outer parts of my lashes. I actually do it about 6-9 times, I really like to coat my lashes.

~The wiggling of the brush horizontally helps separate your lashes and also coats the base of your lashes more which gives a thicker more full look.

~Slowly blinking while slowly bringing the mascara brush straight up, helps to CURL your lashes!
Doing it slowly allows the mascara to somewhat dry and SET the curl/curve of your lashes upwards.

~Dipping the brush each time keeps your mascara brush wet, because it tends to try fast, and that prevents flaking while applying.

Now you will repeat this again for the other eye, of course.
Now this is the part that makes your lashes look LONGER....
After you have your second eye done, go back to the one you did first. (This give them each a little time to dry without being completely try.) Dip your brush back into your mascara to get a good amount of mascara on the brush, but not too much. Now look down slightly and do a quick sweep to just the TIP of your eyelashes from the TOP side of your lashes. You will sweep out and upwards. Do this about 3 times again (center, outer and inner corner of lashes).
After I do the other side, I sometimes go back and do a quick sweep upwards on the underside of my lashes again. Just to give a thicker coat.

~Sweeping the tips of your lashes from the top side allows the mascara to catch and build upon itself, actually making your lashes LONGER.
(Before & After photos shows before applying mascara to the tips and the difference it makes in length after)

And that is all! My "secret" tip for longer looking lashes!
Try it and let me know what you think!
And if you have any question, feel free to ask. :)
Also, tell me, what is YOUR favorite mascara??

Much Love & Hugs,

P.S. I was going for a "Tangled" look in that last photo. ;)
haha Did it remind you of Tangled??

  8. i like your tips and the photos you included are really good. i have not tried using mascara from the top side much. but then... i'm a little lazy about taking my makeup off so i try not to use as much to begin with.
one thing i always do is using dark brown mascara instead of black, it looks more natural on me.

  22. Thanks for the tips! I pretty much apply my mascara like this accept for applying it to the top. I had never thought about that before. Great idea!! I'm wondering if it would be good to do this step before doing the step where you slowly blink. Since you said the blinking curls the lashes I think I would want to do that step last.

You do have very pretty eyes by the way. From the picture they look blue on the outer edge and brown toward the center. Very interesting!
