DIY Long Blingy Statement Necklace

It has been a while since I've done a jewelry DIY, and I had been itching to create new jewelry. I've been seeing lots of long and big blingy necklaces lately, so I thought I would create one for myself and share the tutorial with you.

As usual all the supplies for my tutorials can be found at any craft supply store. Everything from this necklace was found at Walmart.

Supplies needed:
Tiger Tail Jewelry Wire
Crimp Beads
Flat Nose Pliers
Chain
Jump Rings
Big Chunky Beads of choice.

Step 1: Set up your beads in desired design. Then cut a LONG piece of jewelry wire. It will need to be longer than the design of your beads.

Step 2: Put a crimp bead at the end of the wire.

Step 3: Loop the wire back through crimp bead and hold in place.

Step 4: With your flat nose pliers, clamp down on the crimp bead.

Step 5: Your crimp bead will be flattened, creating a secure loop in the wire. You will want to cut the short excess wire, close to the crimp bead.

Step 6: String your chunky beads through the rest of the wire.
Step 7: Once all of the beads are through, follow steps 2-5 to create another secure loop at the other end of your beads.

Step 8: Using your flat nose pliers, open up a jump ring.

Step 9: Connect one end of the beads to one end of the chain. (I used all of the chain, that came in the little package, which was 48 inches)

Step 10: Using the pliers, clamp the jump ring closed.

Step 11: Be sure there is NO opening, not even a small crack, in the jump ring. Because the wire can easily fall off or fall through.

Step 12: Follow steps 8-11 for the other side. And you have yourself a completed, VERY LONG, necklace!

I left the chain long so that I could wear the necklace several ways. In the first picture to the left, you can see just how long the necklace is by itself. In the 2nd, 3rd & 4th picture I am wearing it long with a knot in the middle.
Tie a knot somewhere on the chain to keep it long, but manageable.
Or loop it around your neck a couple times for a new look!
Because I was feeling especially crafty, I bought extra supplies and made myself matching earrings. And using basically the same steps as the necklace, I also made myself a matching bracelet too! The only real difference (aside from size) was attaching a lobster clasp, to be able to take the bracelet on and off.
I hope you enjoyed this simple jewelry tutorial!
and if you want to see more, let me know.
I'd love to hear your suggestions on what you'd like to learn how to make next!
